Synthetic shoe exports take the lead

In 2008, the volume of synthetic shoe exports from Brazil increased to 99.9 million pairs, a growth of 16.2% compared to 2007. Leather shoes occupied second place with 54.5 million pairs, a reduction of 27.3%. In third place were textile shoes with 8.1 million pairs, a drop of  35.6%.

Injected moulded shoes were in fourth place with 2.3 million pairs, an increase of 5.8%. Exports of other types of shoes with no specific classification reached 850,000 thousand pairs, a 30.2% decrease compared to 2007.
 
In 2006, leather upper shoes led Brazilian footwear exports in terms of volume with 89 million pairs and synthetic shoes were in second place with 78 million pairs.
 
The situation changed in 2007, when 86 million pairs of synthetic shoes were exported overtaking leather upper footwear which dropped to 75 million pairs.
