Next generation shoes at Nike

Nike has joined forces with NBA Rookie of the Year, Kevin Durant, to launch ‘next generation’ footwear in the form of the KD1, Mr Durant’s first signature shoe with the brand.

According to the sportswear brand, Mr Durant’s relentless work ethic is fundamental to the shoe’s design. From the age of nine, he has been a persistent “gym rat” and has worked his way up from playing amateur basketball to playing in the league. Nike collaborated closely with the player to create a shoe that focuses on performance and design.

Mr Durant plays small forward and needed a lightweight shoe to keep up with his quick sprints down the court. KD1 has a Nike Zoom unit and a lightweight injection phylon midsole for extra cushioning. It is also equipped with a number of flex grooves on the outsole and has a number of personal touches to reflect the player’s background.

“Working with Nike on my first signature basketball shoe was a dream come true,” said Durant, consensus 2007 National College Player of the Year. “My goal was to introduce a shoe that performs well, looks great and showcases my roots.”
