Chile imports more expensive Chinese shoes

According to official figures, Chile continues to import the majority of its shoes from China.

The country imported approximately 68 million pairs of shoes last year, 6% more than in 2007. Shoe imports were worth $497 million, up 20% year-on-year.

Statistics show that 80% of these imports come from China. However, the average price per pair rose 13% in 2008 compared with 2007 prices.
