Vulcabras-Azaléia to invest in Coronel Suárez

                    Footwear manufacturer Vulcabras-Azaléia has confirmed a plan to expand the production capacity of its Coronel Suárez factory in Argentina. Annual production is to double from the current 2.5 million pairs to 5 million pairs by the end of the year.
The number of employees will also increase from 3,000 to 5,000, company president, Milton Cardoso, said. The move is aimed at increasing the number of locally produced Vulcabras-Azaléia shoes for the Argentinian market from the current 30% to 70%. The other 30% will continue to be imported from Brazil.
In the second half of 2009, Vulcabras-Azaléia intends to start prodution of ladies' footwear under the Azaleia brand in Argentina. Today, Olympikus and Reebok footwear is already being produced in the Coronel Suárez unit, which was bought from Indular Manufacturas in July 2007 for $60 million.
