London focus at GDS

29/01/2009

One of the highlights of the upcoming GDS footwear event in Düsseldorf (March 13–15) will be the tenth edition of fashion-focused event Design Attack. The idea is to provide a contact and business platform for the leathergoods and footwear collections of 100 young national and international designers.

This March, for the first time, brands such as Abteil, Belana Ric Batu and Dubay Design will be exhibiting with their bag collections for autumn-winter 2009–2010. These newcomers will present their trendy collections in hall 3, along with established, consumer-oriented lifestyle and fashion labels in the ‘urban fresh’ and ‘urban active’ footwear sectors, such as Skechers, Kangaroos, Bruno Banani, Tatonka and Chiemsee.

The organisers of the event have said that many former Design Attack participants have been able to establish themselves on the market and now exhibit in the premium areas of GDS, such as urban authentic or white cubes.

The motto for this edition’s Design Attack will be Queen Alpin, which will present London as a ‘British-Alpine metropolis’ to represent globalised youth culture.

The theme reflects what the GDS organisers have called “the fascinating contrasts” of the metropolis of London, with tension between the traditional and the modern, and reflecting the city’s status as a place where music and fashion trends are born.
