Tunisia’s exports slip
27/01/2009
The authorities in Tunisia have said they are still confident of growth in the country’s exports of leather and footwear, in spite of a sharp drop in the latest figures available, those for the month of November.
The government said growth in the sector was still likely to reach 15% for the year, but November exports were down by 11% compared to the same month in 2007. It blamed the global economic downturn.
Tunisia has around 450 companies active in the leather and footwear markets, employing around 40,000 people. Arpund half of those companies concentrate entirely on export markets.
