December exports down

Data released by Pakistan's Federal Bureau of Statistics have shown that during the month of December 2008, Pakistan's leather sector exports fell by 22% to $70.8 million from $90.9 million in November 2008, and by 38.8% if compared to December 2007 ($115.8 million).

The breakdown showed that the country exported finished leather worth $21.1 million, leathergoods worth $40.9 million and footwear worth $8.8 million.

Pakistan's total leather sector exports during the first six months of current financial year (July-December) were down by 11.73% to $537.4 million from $608.8 million in same period last year. 

During the six-month period, the country exported 9.9 million square-metres of finished leather at $163.9 million, leathergoods worth $312.5 million, (which includes leather garments worth $230.1 million and leather gloves with a value of $76.6 million), and 6.8 million pairs of shoes, worth $60.9 million. The number of pairs of shoes exported in the corresponding six months of the pervious financial year was 6.2 million.
