According to the Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI),the Agra footwear and leather sector is not living up to its potential.

"In terms of the infrastructure and trained manpower Agra has improved, yet, the leather industry of Agra is in dire need of trained manpower in order to stay in competition," said FDDI managing director, Rajeev Lakhara.

"In order to tide over the crisis, FDDI has planned the establishment of a training centre at Agra for running short-term courses in different areas of operations that could produce trained manpower for the industry readily employable," he added.

Agra is one of the largest footwear and leather clusters in India with 5,000 units and a daily production capacity of 250,000 pairs of shoes.
