Malaysian footwear orders fall

01/12/2008

According to reports, the footwear sector in Perak, Malaysia, is really suffering as a result of the global economic crisis. There are fears that more redundancies will occur and that further declines in production will be the only option.

Orders have been falling for some time, and there are fears that increased competition could cause the shoe sector to shut down altogether.

Reports indicate that shoe orders have fallen by 20% in the last three months. The Perak footwear sector mainly produces ladies’ shoes, 20% of which are sold abroad.
