Vietnamese companies push into Peru

13/11/2008

A group of 64 Vietnamese firms is to travel to Lima on November 21 to promote their manufactured goods in the Peruvian market, to find distribution partners there and, possibly, set up joint-venture operations with local companies.

Footwear manufacturers are part of the delegation, along with steel producers, automotive manufacturers and construction companies.

The visit is being organised by the Lima Chamber of Commerce.

Peru’s central reserve bank said in 2006 that there has been good recent economic growth in the South American country,  fueled by macroeconomic stability, improved terms of trade, and rising investment and consumption. Trade is expected to increase further after the implementation of a free trade agreement with the United States, in April 2006, another factor that may be attractive to Vietnamese companies.
