Bata announces closures in France
07/11/2008
Bata France has announced that it will close 27 of its 196 stores there next year; 83 jobs will go.
The company said its turnover in France had been falling by 3.5% a year since 2005 and that it had decided to restructure its business, taking out the stores that were contributing least to pushing the figures back up.
It said a further 27 stores were under review and that 85 further jobs could still be under threat. Bata France employs a total of 1,022 people at the moment.
Between now and 2011, the company will also be investing €15 million in refurbishing around 40 or its existing stores and will open around 20 new points of sale.
