Mixed picture in Pakistan

The latest data on Pakistan’s leather sector has revealed a mixed picture. There was
a decline of 1.54% in production of leather during the month of August to 1.65 million square-metres, compared to 1.68 million in August 2007. The production of sole leather also declined by 11.11% to 8 tonnes in August 2008 compared to 9 tonnes in August 2007.

But, according to data released by Federal Bureau of Statistics, the production of footwear recorded a grwoth of 5.46% It produced 2.72 million pairs of footwear in August 2008 compared to 2.58 million pairs in August 2007.
