AAFA sets up safety council

31/10/2008
The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) has launched a new Product Safety Council, which will focus on product safety regulations and issues. These issues were previously encapsulated in its childrenswear marketing division, which will become part of the new council. All AAFA member companies are invited and encouraged to designate an employee to participate on the council.

“While product safety has always been a concern for all AAFA members,” explained president and CEO, Kevin Burke, “recent events in other consumer product industries, and the resulting legislation that also impacts the apparel and footwear industries, spotlighted the need for a dedicated committee for these issues.”

The new council will provide an implementation calendar and summary for recent product safety legislation and a guide to Consumer Product Safety Commission standards affecting the footwear and apparel industries, and more. It will also host product safety seminars in the
US
and around the world.
