Footwear production slows
According to the Philippines’ National Statistics Office, manufacturing output fell 1.5% in August, with double-digit declines registered by six major sectors: footwear and apparel, leather products, nonmetallic mineral products, publishing and printing, transport equipment and basic metals.
The footwear and apparel sector posted a 15% drop month-on-month, while leather product output fell 16.7%.
Meanwhile, the country’s Value of Production Index (VaPI) also posted a 1.7% month-on-month decline in August, with footwear and apparel falling 15% and leather products down 16.1%.
