Disappointing sales during festival period

01/10/2008

Footwear retailers across Pakistan were unhappy with sales achieved during annual Muslim festival Eid-ul-Fitr. The occasion is usually an extremely popular one for buying shoes.

According to reports, sales were down by between 20% and 30% compared with last year. Shoe shop owners complained that the number of customers on the high street was much lower than last year and that higher living costs and double-digit inflation could be partly responsible for this. They also suggested that recent explosions may have put people off.
