August boost, but outlook still gloomy

Sweden's Retail Commerce Institute has issued figures that show sales of shoes in the Scandinavian country in August to have increased by 4.8% compared to the same month last year. It said intense promotional activity among retailers was the main reason.
Figures for the year as a whole, however, are more gloomyt. In the first eight months of this year, sales of shoes in Sweden dropped by 5.5% compared to the same period last year. The Retail Commerce Insititute expexts the overall 2008 figures to be negative.
