Hush Puppies marks 50th anniversary
Michigan-based shoe firm Hush Puppies is celebrating its 50th year in business this year.
The casual shoe firm started out making supple suede in combination with lightweight crepe soles and has continued to make comfortable, practical footwear since then. The company, which is now a division of Wolverine World Wide, still uses the distinctive basset hound logo and its shoes are sold in more than 120 countries.
However, the company has announced it will make changes to the way it operates in Asia-Pacific, according to vice-president of Hush Puppies International for Asia-Pacific, Bill Mirecki, who said during a visit to Bangkok that, while the brand is well-known in the region, it could do with a fresher, younger image. It is planning to introduce a recently launched store concept, Hush Puppies Studio, in various countries in the region in the near future. It is reportedly planning to open at least 100 new outlets in the Asia-Pacific region this year.
