Aokang unveils first Indian manufacturing facility

China-based footwear group Aokang International’s Indian licensee Aokang International India Pvt. Ltd. has opened its first Indian factory in Manesar, Haryana. The investment totalled Rs20 million ($458,000).

The factory will have an initial capacity of 200 pairs per day. It will initially make men’s shoes for those in the middle income segment across northern, western and southern India. The factory will accommodate 200 employees and produce 1,000 pairs a day by 2009.

Equipped with imported Italian machines for cutting and stitching, the factory has an R&D section, raw material store and cutting section. Stitching will initially be outsourced. By 2010, Aokang India plans to decrease imports and start producing high end products at the Manesar unit.

Aokang is the official leather goods supplier for Beijing 2008 Olympics Games.
