Custom shoes popular at Zazzle

US-based on-demand retail platform Zazzle has reported a positive response to its recently introduced custom shoe offering.

Just a week after the launch it claims more than 30,000 user-generated designs have been created and made available for purchase and further customisation, and the number of designs is growing at an accelerating pace.

“We have an incredibly diverse and talented community of designers, and had high hopes that the opportunity to create custom shoes would get them excited,” said Jeff Beaver, co-founder and chief product officer, Zazzle. “We’ve simply been blown away by the response, both the volume and variety of user-generated designs have exceeded our expectations.”

Mr Beaver said that some of the most popular themes include art, music, animals and politics. However, within 48 hours, one computer whizz had created a ‘Google Maps mashup’ allowing customers to add a map or satellite photo of the customer’s hometown on the shoe.

Customers can design and select colours for the entire shoe by uploading their own designs, patterns, illustrations, images and text. They can then preview the shoes instantly. They are then embellished and assembled from scratch within 24 to 48 hours, allowing consumers to receive their shoes within one to two weeks.
