Industry trends exposed in Shoestats report

13/08/2008

The American Apparel and Footwear Association’s (AAFA’s) newly released ShoeStats 2008 report shows that the average American continued to shop for footwear in 2007, albeit not with the tenacity of recent years. While Americans still bought almost 2.4 billion pairs of shoes in 2007, that number represented a slight decrease compared with 2006.

The report examines business and trade information, covering US footwear consumption, production, employment, imports and retail prices.

“Shoes will always be a necessary purchase,” explained Kevin Burke, president and CEO, AAFA. “How much shoppers buy, though, is clearly influenced by overall economic trends.”
