Did designer shoes inspire Olympic gold medallist?
According to reports, designer shoes may have been one of the incentives in Rebecca Adlington’s mind as she crossed the finish line to win Olympic gold in the women’s 400 metre freestyle swimming event.
Ms Addlington, who is the first British woman to have won gold in an Olympic swim event for almost 50 years, was promised a new pair of Jimmy Choo shoes – by the mayor of Mansfield, where she is from – before the swim and has since been promised a congratulatory pair of Christian Louboutin shoes by her parents. She has been reported as saying that she loves shoes and already has more than 30 pairs, but is determined to have more.
Ms Adlington is still in with a chance of winning a medal in the 4x200m relay and 800m freestyle, tipped as her strongest event.
