China tops US shoe export list
According to figures from the US department of commerce, the US imported 2.3 billion pairs of shoes worth $19.2 billion from a range of countries including China, Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia, Italy, Thailand, Taiwan, Mexico, India and Hong Kong.
And, while this is a 0.61% year-on-year decline in terms of volume, the value rose 0.71%. The average unit value also increased by 1.3% to $8.06.
Shoes from China accounted for a staggering 87% of the total volume of US shoe imports in 2007, valued at $13.9 billion. This was followed by Vietnam, which had a 3.97% share worth $1.04 billion and Brazil with a 2.21% share worth $775 million.
