Still no halting Vietnam’s export growth

Despite anti-dumping measures from the European Union (EU), Vietnam has achieved growth of 20.1% in exports of leather, leather footwear and leathergoods during the first half of 2008.

Out of total Vietnamese exports of $29.7 billion during January–June 2008, the share of leather footwear and other leather products stood at $2.7 billion, This compared to $ 2.2 billion in January-June 2007 - showing a growth
of 22.7%, according to data released by the country’s General Statistics Office.

In spite of the EU’s import control measures, Vietnam still exported leather footwear worth $2.3 billion during the first six months of the year, compared to $1.9 billion 12 months earlier.
