A new workshop entitled ‘Sustainability: Collective Visions’ has been added to the programme at Materials at WSA, which will take place July 28-30.

Presented by sustainable fashion expert Lynda Grose, the workshop will provide offer insight into sustainable design strategies within the fashion marketplace that can be applied to any industry.

Ms Grose has been involved in the fashion industry for 25 years, working with client such as The Sustainable Cotton Project, Aid to Artisans,
Gap Inc, Patagonia, Green Peace, 13-mile Farm and Shayan Craft center.

She has also developed curricula for sustainable fashion design at the Academy of Art University and California College of the Arts, in San Francisco, where she is currently the senior adjunct professor.

“The fashion industry has always pursued sustainability primarily through organic fabrics and alternative materials, which can be substituted within current business models,” said Ms Grose. “However, now the tides are turning and the understanding of sustainability is evolving to extend to the full lifecycle, including consumer use and patterns of consumption.

“This presentation will highlight emerging examples in fashion that provoke reflection, and will provide insight into how alternative business models will affect the footwear industry.”

Materials at WSA will also host a two-part colour trend preview workshop presented by Pantone on July 28 and 29, in addition to ‘The Future of Footwear Manufacturing in China’ on July 28 and ‘Translating New Materials into Function’, which will introduce new materials and demonstrate innovative ways of using them.
