In spite of claims in Bangladesh that the government has failed to take full advantage of opportunities to export goods duty free to Taiwan, investment in Bangladesh from the island trading partner continues, especially in the footwear sector.

La Luna Shoes Limited is the latest Taiwanese brand to set up a  manufacturing plant, investing $19.8 million, in the Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone in Bangladesh. It will produce 2.5 million pairs of shoes
annually for export markets and employ around 2,500 people.

Another company, Sheng Tseng Enterprises, has announced that it too will set up a shoe accessories and plastic products manufacturing facility in the same area, investing in this case $8.3 million.
