Brazilian boost for Lotto

Lotto Sport Italia has reported sales of EUR 300 million for 2007, an 8% increase from 2006.

The sports footwear and apparel brand attributed this growth in part to a licensing agreement with Filon Confeccoes in Brazil, which Lotto has identified as a “high potential market”. In addition, Lotto said the introduction of its Twist'ngo technology, which allows for soccer shoe studs to rotate, and its new watch and eyewear collections contributed well.

The company identified Romania, Bulgaria and the Netherlands as regions with the largest growth in the year.

Lotto footwear sales accounted for 43% of the company's overall business last year, up 10% on the year before, while clothing made up 48%.

Andrea Tomat, president of Lotto, said in a statement that he regarded the results as excellent, given the difficult market conditions in Europe at the moment. “The forecasts are positive for 2008, as well,” he continued. “However, the market conditions will not be particularly encouraging in the second-half year due to the impact of rising energy costs, which will have a negative effect on consumers’ disposable income.”
