New speaker for Materials at WSA conference
01/07/2008
The organisers of the conference element of Materials at WSA—the new section devoted to footwear components and materials at the twice-yearly footwear exhibition—have announced a new speaker for the summer edition of the event, which takes place later this month.
Author, designer and expert on materials and their application in design, Chris Lefteri, will host a workshop entitled ‘Translating New Materials into Function’. In it, he will explain how footwear manufacturers can use new materials to make shoes that are innovative, lightweight and eco-friendly.
“Materials resources are everywhere, loads of information, masses of amazing smart technologies, and an expanding world of sustainable alternatives. What are less well-developed, are methods for integrating these materials into the creative process,” he said on announcing the session. “If materials are the main ingredients to communication, emotion, and enhanced product performance, then this workshop is like a recipe from a great cookbook.”
Show director, Courtney Harold, said: “Succeeding in any industry and staying ahead is all about innovation, and the footwear and accessories industry is no different. To achieve that desired market standout, designers and manufacturers must constantly search for the next big idea and this could come from industries outside of traditional footwear. Chris Lefteri’s knowledge of the myriad of material possibilities and insight into the design industry makes him the perfect speaker for this workshop. He will provide valuable, eye-opening information for all attendees who want to stay at the forefront of new material developments.”
The workshop will take place at 2:00pm on July 29 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, Room N-101 and pre-registration can be completed online at www.materialsatwsa.com. Space is limited.
