Guanajuato: exports down

23/06/2008

Footwear exports from the Mexican state of Guanajuato fell by 10.8% in the first quarter of 2008 compared to the same period last year. The local industry, based in and around the city of León, has suffered uncertainty and upheaval because of a long-running battle to decide Mexico’s trade policy with China.

The situation has now been resolved, with the government offering a level of support to Mexican manufacturers.

Nevertheless, the difficult time the industry has gone through contributed to an export total for the quarter of $40 million, while the corresponding figure in 2007 was $45.
