Good show for Brazilians

Brazilian footwear manufacturers continued their positive tour of industry fairs around the world at Expo Riva Schuh from June 14-17.

In all, 17 Brazilian brands took part in the latest edition of the event in northern Italy.

Afterwards, Heitor Klein of industry body Abicalçados, which helped facilitated the Brazilian companies' participation in the event, said the show was an important one for his members because the footwear they have to offer is ideal for mid-market collections in Italy.

"In 2007, our country exported 5.5 million pairs of shoes to Italy, with a value of $83 million," he explained. "That means volume was up by 33% on the previous year and value by 51.7%. In the first three months of this year, Italy has imported 2.9 million pairs worth $48.3 million."

He said these results were attributable to the fact that Brazilian shoes are particularly suited to the mid-market segment, in which consumers demand fashion at good prices. "Buyers at the fair can see that our tradition of producing shoes is in keeping with what these consumers want," Mr Klein continued, "quality and design at a reasonable price."
