La Rioja manufacturers demand help now

Manufacturers in Spain’s second most important footwear region, La Rioja, have insisted the sector there needs help from local, regional and central levels of government now, instead of being forced to wait until the winter.

The government announced an aid package for some manufacturing sectors last year, with footwear on the list. However, the industry has calculated that it may be December before any money filters through to companies.

The president of the Footwear Manufacturers’ Association of La Rioja, José Antonio Sáenz de Tejada, said on June 18: “We need whatever help our governments can offer now. If we have to wait until December for help, it's possible some of our member companies will not be around to receive it.”
