Following the announcement in May that two Taiwanese companies will invest in footwear factories in Bangladesh, a third investor from Taiwan—Cosmos Shoes International—has revealed a proposal to set up a factory there with capacity to produce 2.5 million pairs of shoes a year.

The proposed new factory will be in the Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone and Cosmos has said its investment in the new facility will be $16.6 million. The company intends to produce shoes for the export market.

The enterprise will create 3,100 new jobs.
