Footwear and leather down

23/05/2008

Italy's economic results registered the weakest monthly performance in March since January 2004.

Earnings from the footwear and leather sectors contributed to the poor results, showing a drop of 10.6% compared to March last year.

The first two months of 2008 were strong enough to have given the Italian economy as a whole a positive first quarter, 3% up on the first quarter last year. Also, the orders companies took during the first three months of the year were up by 5.2% on the same period last year, although this, too, was because of strong performances in January and February.
