Companies urged to open up to students

Industry organisation the Elche Footwear Industry Association (AICE) has written to member companies urging them to open their doors to allow students starting a new university course to gain practical experience.

The local public university, Miguel Hernández University (UMH), is launching a new course in footwear design and footwear company management at the start of next academic year in October. AICE secretary, José Orts, has written to local footwear manufacturing firms to explain that the course will involve 250 hours a year in the classroom, but that there is a need for students also to have 350 hours a year inside a footwear factory and he encouraged local companies to make places available.

He said the pay-back for Elche manufacturers would be that these young people would come away from the course “fully prepared for a role in the management teams of these companies, either in design, in administration or in commercial manamgent”.
