Li Ning still admires Nike and adidas

Chinese athletic footwear brand Li Ning hopes to make a big impression during the Beijing Olympics this summer and has sponsored an interesting mix of teams and athletes, including the US table tennis team, the Sudanese track and field team and the ceremonial kit of the entire Swedish delegation (although not the things the Swedish athletes will wear to compete).

However, the company has admitted that it still lags behind global giants adidas and Nike. Its head of footwear, Abel Wu, said in a recent conversation with Business Week magazine: “We don't have as strong a brand as Nike and adidas. Our thinking is that as a local brand, we need to have an international image.”
