The southern Mexican state of Veracruz is losing manufacturing jobs because some companies, the state authorities say, want to move to the north of the country to be closer to the US market.

Four companies have left Veracruz for this reason in recent months. However, the local minister for economic development, Carlos García Méndez, has said that three manufacturers are waiting to move into the state, including a footwear manufacturer, who will set up a factory in the town of Tempoal.
