Bank backs footwear entrepreneurs

In opening a new branch in the city of Kandy, the Lankaputhra Development Bank hopes to provide specific help to local footwear firms by offering a specific business loan package called the Footwear Manufacturers Loan Scheme.
Sri Lanka´s minister of finance and state revenue, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, said at the official opening ceremony that the government knew it must include small and medium entrepreneurs in its journey towards the development of the Sri Lankan economy. He said the government was committed to giving "the fullest cooperation" to small and medium sized companies.
