German comfort sandals and clogs brand Birki's is stepping up its environmental commitments with its new Nature Trail campaign, which includes an expanded collection of Vegan footwear. It has also identified eight operational components to help minimise the company's impact on the environment.

"From day one of our existence, our commitment has been to provide comfortable, healthy footwear through manufacturing procedures that maximise resources and minimise waste," says brand director, Stefan Simon. "Even our partners and suppliers in Germany are chosen with top ecological standards in mind."

From solvent-free production and use of solar and recycled energy to recycling excess materials and creating biological communities, ecological responsibility is a major focus for the company.

Its line of Vegan clogs and sandals includes new styles and colours. The uppers are made from synthetic fleece called Birko-flor and the footbed liners made from microfibre. Water-soluble adhesives are also used. The whole line features the brand's footbed, designed to offer arch support and to promote foot health and posture.

With global headquarters in Vettelschoss, Germany, and US headquarters in Petaluma, CA, Birki's and Birki-Kids are sold in more than 85 countries.
