Imports of footwear into Chile grew by 12.9% last year, reaching a value of $415.6 million.
A report in business newspaper El Diario Financiero said 70% of these imports came from China, while 20% were from Brazil. María Ester Panebianco, the managing director of Donnabella, one of a diminishing number of local producers, told the newspaper that her company had gone from making 6,000 pairs of shoes a month to producing only 1,000 at the moment.
