A footwear trade union in Venezuela says it has been waiting for 14 months for talks with the company owners over a collective pay settlement.

Union leader Efraín Perozo has called on the government to intervene to force footwear manufacturers to the negotiating table. He says the pay settlement his union wants to negotiate would benefit 40,000 workers in the sector.
