Value up but volume down on leather shoes

05/03/2008

China’s exports of leather shoes fell by 6%, in terms of volume, last year.

However, new figures released by the China Leather Industry Association, which focus on value, suggest that the country’s leather sector as a whole grew by 9.3% in 2007. Exports rose to $25.5 billion from $23.3 billion in 2006.

The CLIA figures on leather footwear confirm the drop in volume, but put exports in this category at $9.6 billion compared to $8. billion for the year before.
