Political support on 'Shoe Tax' increases

The Affordable Footwear Act, a proposal in the US to end a decades old tax on shoes, has taken a further step towards becoming law.
The proposed legislation now has the support of 100 members of the House of Representatives. It aims to eliminate import tariffs on all lower- to moderately-priced footwear as well as all children’s shoes. Together, these categories account for about 60% of all shoes sold in the United States.
“In such a contentious political climate, 100 Representatives of all political opinions uniting to eliminate the shoe tax is significant,” said Kevin Burke, president and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), on hearing the news.
