Footwear exports slip
Although Pakistan’s footwear exports crept 0.27% higher month-on-month in January to reach $8.915 million, up from $8.891 million in the same month last year, the overall picture for the industry looks far from positive.
According to the latest figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, year-to-date exports for the first seven months of the fiscal calendar (July 2007 to January 2008) fell 2.3% to 7,889,000 pairs worth $ 63.376 million, down from 8,649,000 pairs worth $64.870 million in same period of the previous year.
A breakdown of exports for the first seven months showed that leather footwear accounted for $48.438 million, canvas footwear for $0.396 million and other footwear for $14.542 million.
