Hi-Tec launches eco-friendly golf shoe

British sports footwear manufacturer Hi-Tec has launched what it claims to be “the world’s first ‘environmentally friendly’ golf shoe in terms of design and manufacture.

Said to be made from 99% sustainable materials, the Enviro is made using only  chrome-free, organic vegetable-tanned leathers, combined with outsoles made from rice husks and latex rubber and a sockliner manufactured from 100% recycled materials. According to the company, at present only the spike receptacle remains ‘not green’ although the company’s engineers are said to be confident that soon even this will be made in a sustainable way.

Commenting on the new shoe, Fredrik Sundstrom, global golf director said: “Whether it’s being ‘green’, ‘recycled’ or ‘earth friendly’, we are constantly being reminded about environmental issues in the media. Society wants to be more environmentally conscious and it is our responsibility to provide products that fit this demand. The world is definitely changing and we want to push our golf division to be more responsible for the earth”.
