Former commerce minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, a director at one of Pakistan’s largest footwear manufacturers and exporters, Service Industries Ltd in Lahore, has again been elected to the National Assembly in the country’s general election.

A member of the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP), he defeated former Prime Minister and head of the country’s biggest political party Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to take the seat in Gujrat in Punjab.

Having been involved in the leather and footwear industries for many years, the sector is hopeful that his election will benefit the industry.
