Further job cuts at Rohde

20/02/2008

According to local media reports, struggling footwear manufacturer Rohde has cut a further 113 jobs at its production facility in Hessen, Germany almost one third of the 420-strong workforce.

The company, which went into liquidation last March, had already reduced the staff numbers in Germany by approximately 100 last year and closed its Austrian facility with the loss of a further 100 posts.

Commenting on the decision to announce further redundancies, administrator Carsten Koch said that the cuts were necessary in order to safeguard the company’s future and save the remaining jobs. He added that the prospects for the future were “very good” as talks with a prospective buyer were “progressing well” and that a deal could be closed in just a few weeks.

Founded in 1947, the company’s annual production stands at approximately six million pairs.
