Italian shoe production slips

While the president of the National Association of Italian Footwear Manufacturers (ANCI), Vito Artioli, stated in December that “after a difficult three years, an upswing is on the horizon” for the European country’s shoe industry, the latest production statistics tell a very different story.

Although it is true that Italy’s overall industrial production fell (-0.5%), the decline recorded in the footwear and leather manufacturing sector was much more significant at a staggering -15.8%.
