Chinese footwear exports fall

28/01/2008

Whether it is the result of certain anti-dumping measures implemented on Chinese-made footwear around the globe, or whether it is a reflection of increasing labour costs and more stringent environmental regulations, China exported fewer pairs of leather shoes in the first eleven months of 2007 (January to November). However, while the numbers may have dropped, revenues continued to rise, indicating a fairly widespread move towards higher value footwear production.

According to the figures, released by China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), China exported 120.52 million pairs of leather shoes worth $8.751 billion in the 11-months in question, compared with 126.83 million pairs valued at $8.007 billion in the corresponding period in 2006, equating to a 9.3% rise in value.
