Athletic footwear price increases slow in 2007
According to preliminary data released by America’s National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA), the average price growth for athletic footwear slowed to 2.1% in 2007, versus a year-on-year increase of 3.4% in 2006 (compared with 2005).
The average price per pair in 2007 rose to $43.03 last year, up from $42.16 in 2006 and $40.78 in 2005.
According to the NGSA, on average, males spent more on athletic footwear than females at $44.98 versus $41.33, while in terms of age group, the 14-to-17-year –old segment just edged out 18-to-24-year-olds as the biggest spenders, paying an average price of $53.04 compared with $53.01.
