American sporting goods, apparel and footwear retailer Joe's Sports & Outdoor has appointed Hal Smith as president and chief executive, as well as a member of the company's board of directors. He replaces Norm Daniels, who will continue to serve on the firm’s board of directors.

A former president of Bass Pro Shops and several other retail companies, Mr Smith most recently held the position of executive vice-president of Pep Boys, an automotive chain.

Joe's Sports & Outdoor operates 30 stores in the Pacific Northwest.
