Doha athletes make a step in the right direction
Student athletes at the Aspire Sporting Academy in Doha, Qatar, are being given a helping hand to put their best foot forward through a new partnership with German orthotic footwear developer S Merzendorfer.
Having taken 3D scans of all of the young athletes feet during a training camp held in Germany over the summer, Merzendorfer has now created special footwear inserts specifically designed for each student and their chosen sport with the aim of enhancing their performance..
Commenting on the new orthotics, Aspire’s chief health officer Dr Manfred Dingerkus said: "Runners, football players and high jumpers all engage in activities which place significant demands on their feet — although often in very different ways. The technology we have deployed ensures that the training shoes our athletes wear are tailored to both their feet and to their sport."
The information gathered from the scans of the athletes’ feet will also be used to monitor the athletes' growth and development.
Established in September 2004, Aspire was created to nurture young sporting talent from the Middle East region across a range of sports.
